Daily Prompt: The Transporter
Tell us about a sensation — a taste, a smell, a piece of music — that transports you back to childhood.
So we’re going down the childhood route this week then? That’s fine by me, I haven’t had much of anything else.
The only thing I can think of is a piece of music. I don’t know what it’s called and I probably couldn’t even sing it to you but if I heard it, I’d know it.
It’s a piece on the piano that my mum used to play, something classical with lots of showy-offy fancy bits in it. My mum is pretty talented at the piano and I used to love listening to her.
It even convinced me to plead for piano lessons. I was crap. I did it for at least nine years and I’m still as crap now as I was that first lesson when I just had to play C over and over. I would say that it wasn’t for lack of trying, but let’s be honest, it was. I didn’t even bother to learn the music, I just memorised the notes, then didn’t practice them. But during this time I did discover my incredible talent for procrastination, so all wasn’t lost.
